Press reports
Snow-covered pistes continue to offer predominantly good conditions
Skiing and tobogganing on over 50 lifts - cross-country skiing on snow-covered trails
The bitter cold has left and some fresh snow is covering the mountain peaks. At the weekend, 50 to 60 lifts in more than ten ski resorts are expected to be open. Cross-country skiing is also possible on a small scale.
Alpine skiing
Two to three centimetres of fresh snow fell on Thursday night. The snow-covered slopes are still covered with up to 60 centimetres of snow. Despite slightly milder weather, the snow cover will be firm up to and including Friday, but rather soft due to the precipitation on Saturday. Falling temperatures and predominantly dry weather make Sunday the most beautiful day for winter sports. In the morning, the pistes will be firm again. Between 50 and 60 lifts are expected to be running and more than ten ski areas will be open. Pure natural snow slopes will probably no longer be open.
Floodlights
In at least five ski resorts, the floodlights will be switched on in the evening over the next few days. Depending on the ski resort, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays or Saturdays. Floodlight information at www.wintersport-arena.de
Cross-country skiing
The precipitation has led to a significant deterioration in conditions, meaning that cross-country skiing on natural snow is hardly possible at the weekend. The Westfeld cross-country skiing centre has used the recent cold spell to produce snow. Part of the snow park has now been modelled in the stadium area. Cross-country skiers will find a 1.5 kilometre circuit there. Pure natural snow trails are not expected to be groomed at the weekend. Trail information is available at www.wintersport-arena.de
Tobogganing
The snow-covered toboggan runs are still open. At the weekend, there are around ten toboggan lifts in the entire region. Some of them are also floodlit. Information on toboggan lifts at www.wintersport-arena.de
Hiking
Sunday is a good day for a hike. Predominantly dry and not too cold, it entices you out into the mountains. There is no longer any closed snow cover. It's quite possible that a hint of fresh snow will cover the landscape in the morning. If you want to experience this, you don't have to travel to the ski resorts. Tourist information centres are happy to provide tips on where the hiking is particularly beautiful.
Weather
Precipitation will fall across the region up to and including Saturday. With temperatures often slightly above zero, it will mostly fall as rain during the day, reducing the snow in the landscape. Some snow is also possible during the slightly frosty nights on Friday and Sunday. The weather will calm down towards Sunday, with precipitation and wind easing. However, the sun will not make an appearance again until the new week. It will start dry and cold with some clearing.
